Princess Taela of the shattered kingdom of Valdyr was raised among ironclad shieldmaidens instead of pampered courtiers, she learned the sword before she learned courtly dance, and by sixteen had already slain the wolf-lord Kharvek atop the frozen cliffs of Skorn. When her father’s throne was betrayed by black-hearted nobles who opened the gates to raiders from the eastern wastes, Taela escaped the burning citadel clad in scorched armor and carrying only the ancestral blade Sunsorrow across her back. Now she rides from battlefield to battlefield upon her midnight warhorse Veyra, gathering mercenaries, exiles, and oath-sworn warriors beneath her crimson banner.
